Ice Melt Princess Candidate Bios:
Michaela Miller is a graduate of the Summit High School class of 2011 and is currently living in Frisco and attending classes at Colorado Mountain College in pursuit of her associate’s degree. After a summer studying in Granada, Spain last year and traveling Europe, Michaela is planning to transfer to CU-Denver in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in international studies.

Michaela was born in Missouri and has also lived in New York and California — in addition to her years in Summit County. She loves photography, reading a good mystery novel, rowing, skiing and enjoying the outdoors. She loves to try new things — especially new foods — and is excited to be an Ice Princess this year to help with the Rotary’s mission of giving back to the community.

Hayley Lotan is 21 years old and has lived in Breckenridge for 2 years.  She graduated from CMC with an AA and DNA Degree.  She currently works at the Doubletree in Breckenridge and will be returning to Nursing School.  She volunteers with Bo Zurbriggen at the hospital in Frisco and was highly recommended to be an Ice Princess.  She is very excited about having the opportunity to support Rotary in this very important Community Project.

Nancy Follett moved to Summit County in 1994 and quickly immersed herself in community activities. For the Summit Foundation she was a director and then President and is now an emeritus director. For the National Repertory Orchestra she was a director and then its president. She was a director and then President of the Keystone Ranch Homeowners Association. Nancy helped found and then chaired the Mountain Art Gathering. She has been named Summit County’s “Citizen of the Year” and “Philanthropist of the Year.” She continues her involvement with community organizations as an advisor and supporter.

Before moving to Summit County she lived in Oak Park, Illinois (a Chicago suburb of 64,000.) There she was elected to two terms (8 years) as Township Supervisor (an elected office not found in Colorado.) She was a founder and president of the largest health planning agency in Illinois and director of the American Health Planning Association. She chaired the Oak Park Fire and Police Commission, opening these departments to women firefighters and police officers. She also led several local charitable agencies, was involved with a successful non-partisan political party, was an officer or president of county and state-wide organizations, and served on the board of directors of a large corporation.

She raised four children and now has seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Before health problems slowed her down, she was active in water aerobics and Pilates. She played the harp as a young woman and has continued to support many musical activities.

Nancy asks for your support for her candidacy. The Ice Princess contest is one more way that Nancy will continue her giving to the Summit County community.

(A note from Nancy’s husband: “I married a beautiful blonde 61 years ago. The blonde has turned to gray, but Nancy continues to have a beautiful heart, more caring than ever. She has always been my princess.”)

Kristina Klug is a Colorado native raised in Longmont, Colorado.  She has been skiing since she was 3 years old.   She attended CU Boulder, where she met her husband, Noah Klug (of The Klug Law Firm, LLC, located in Dillon), also a Colorado native.   While in college, she spent a year studying in Spain and completed 2 majors and a minor in 4.5 years!   After college, she lived in Seattle while Noah was stationed in Japan as an officer in the Navy.  The couple then married and moved to Rhode Island and Texas.  When Noah was honorably discharged in 2003, the couple moved home to Colorado.  After Noah completed his law degree in Denver the couple moved up to Summit County in 2007 and has no plans to leave ever again.  Kristina & Noah welcomed a son Jack in 2008 and another son Sam in 2010.  Kristina began a Master’s Degree in School Counseling in 2009 and completed it in August of 2011.

She serves on the board of Lake Dillon Preschool; she is the co-chair for the Lake Dillon Preschool Fundraising Committee (currently planning the 6th Annual Ladies Night Out, May 11th 2012).  She also works at Curves in Frisco, is the office manager for The Klug Law Firm, and is starting an administrative consulting business, when she is not raising her two rambunctious little boys!

Being crowned Ice Princess would be the icing on a very sweet cake!   Look for Kristina on the mountain trying to learn to telemark ski (yikes), shopping at Target and chasing her boys around Dillon!

Jennifer McConnell is a true Colorado native; she was born and raised in Littleton, Colorado and has been calling Summit County home since 2000. Growing up, she spent her weekends riding the ski bus, heading to the mountains and learning to ski with Buffalo Ski Club.   After graduating from Metro State College with her first Bachelor’s degree, she moved to Summit County with her brother who joined the Summit County Sherriff’s Department.   After many years of living in Summit County, odd jobs during the summers, and ski patrolling during the winter, Jennifer headed back to school to become a nurse. Now after eight years of service at St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, with the last five years working as an emergency department nurse, Jennifer is the Director of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner’s Program. She and a team of exceptional nurses provide medical care to victims who have been sexually assaulted. Jennifer loves being a nurse and always finds room in her heart for every patient she cares for. Currently, Jennifer is applying to Nurse Practitioner school and hoping to become a provider here in Summit County. Like most Summit Countians she enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities year-round: skiing, snowshoeing, hut trips, hiking, rafting, and mountain and road biking. Jenn’s most loyal followers are her two yellow Labradors.   She wins their votes with the dog treats she constantly carries in her pockets and she’ll win your votes with her warm personality because there’s not an icy bone in her body.
